I’m a Big Sister Now Wins Ben Franklin Award

I’m a Big Sister Now, by Katura Hudson, illustrated by Sylvia Walker, was named the 2019 Benjamin Franklin Award winner in the children’s picture book (4-7) category. The award was presented by the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) at the 31st Annual Benjamin Franklin Award program, held in Chicago on April 5, 2019.

The IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards recognize excellence and innovation in independent publishing - judging both editorial and design of each entry.

I’m a Big Sister Now, and its companion title, I’m a Big Brother Now, were published by Marimba Books, an imprint of Just Us Books. Both books can be purchased at justusbooks.com and other book retailers.

Just Us Books Visits Havana International Book Fair 2019

Just Us Books had the great honor of participating in the Black Publishers and Writers Delegation visit to Cuba. Books brought us together; We attended the 28th Havana International Bookfair, which kicked off on Feb. 6 in Havana’s San Carlos de la Cabana fortress. But beyond books, our visit to Cuba was about discovering/deepening connections, supporting each other, and strengthening our communities together.

2018 — A milestone year for Just Us Books

2018 was an exciting year for Just Us Books. We thank all of our friends and supporters for our success.

We kicked off a celebration of our 30th year of continuous publishing, with an event at the Schomburg Center,  saw the release of We Rise, We Resist, We Raise Our Voices, published in partnership with Crown Books for Young Readers. We published four titles under JUB and sister imprint, Marimba Books and received several honors recognizing our contributions to children's literature and diversity. School visits and speaking engagements enabled us and many of our authors and illustrators to engage with students, parents and teachers around the country. We thank all of you who helped to spread the word about our efforts and purchased, reviewed and recommended our books as resource tools. There could be no Just Us Books without all of you. We look forward to partnering with you in 2019.

And we continue…
